Nagomi Wahira (和平 なごみ, Wahira Nagomi) is one of the main protagonists characters of the Akiba Maid War anime series.

She came to Akihabara to be a Oinky Doink Café maid in order to live her dream of being a cute maid.

Appearance[]

Nagomi has long brown hair styled into two ponytails, with the back hair loose and gold-colored eyes. She wears the Oinky Doink Café Maid outfit with long white stockings and black mary janes.

In the first half of Episode 12, her entire maid uniform was color swapped to black, in mourning of Ranko. She also wears a pair of aviator sunglasses.

In the post-credits scene in episode 12, she has a slightly more mature look, being 36 years old. Her hair is longer and her bang are outgrown, parted between her forehead. She also wears lipstick. She still dons the Oinky Doink Café maid uniform along with the hair clip that Ranko gave her prior to her death. As she is now wheelchair-bound, she uses a sports-style wheelchair to maneuver around that features the pictures and name tags of her 1999 staff along with Nerula.

Personality[]

Nagomi is a cheerful and energetic girl. Her energy is diminished once she realizes the true nature of maid life, but she still tries to look for the best in every situation.

She is one of the few people in the café who think problems can be solved without violence, which previously annoyed Yumechi.

However, after witnessing Nerula's death, she goes from this to a Technical Pacifist after she joins a ninja-themed café and gets inspired by General's words to change.

Following the death of Ranko Mannen, she becomes bitter and driven by vengeance. She acquires Ranko's handgun and beings using violence to get information on Ranko's killer. She goes so far as slapping Yumechi across her face and accusing the other Oinky Doink Maids of not doing anything to avenge Ranko, before telling them that she will kill as many of the Creatureland Group members as she can and send them straight to hell so she could finally see Ranko's smile once again when she finally gets there. She eventually realizes that she does not want to continue down that path, choosing to resume being the cheerful and energetic girl who believes in the power of moe moe kyun.

Background[]

Nagomi came to Akihabara with the dream of becoming a cute maid. She is hired as a live-in maid at the Oinky Doink Cafe, where she is joined by another maid, Ranko Mannen, who was also hired the same day, despite being significantly older. She is a determined girl who does not give up even if she fails, but she is shocked by the current situation in Akihabara and the reality of maid cafes. Upon trying to escape, she was unable, thanks to sharing a room with Ranko as if she was watching over her.

After seeing how Nerula was murdered in front of her eyes, Nagomi becomes severely traumatized to the point of quitting her job as a maid in Oinky Doink Café and becoming a ninja in a café stylized with ninjas. However, after seeing how worried her co-workers were about her and getting involved in a war, she got some advice from people she knew. Nagomi decides to go back and be a maid, but now has slightly changed, due to using violence combined with her new combat techniques when she was a ninja. Her transformation was to protect their café; however, she still refuses to kill and will continue to act like herself to fulfill the promise that she made to Nerula before she died.

In Episode 8, Nagomi is shown to be an experienced softball player and serves as a catcher in a baseball confrontation with the Axolotls. She is against rough play and encourages her teammates and their opponents to finish the game with the spirit of fair play.

In Episode 9, when the Lady Omoe Festival begins, Nagomi stays up all day to make the stall look better, but the festival has been arranged, so their stand isn't even on the map. When Nagomi tries to sell her pig's feet elsewhere, the other maids make her, and the other Oinky Doink maids grovel in apology. As night falls, Nagomi leads the others to cut in line in front of the others and race for real, unaware of the rigged guidelines. The maids quite literally fight their way to the top against the other Creatureland maids, with Nagomi finally planting the pig symbol at the top of Lady Omoe, and she becomes that year's "Omoe-sama".

In Episode 11, when Oinky Doink is cut off from Creatureland Group, she heads to the headquarters with Ranko to return the title for "Omoe-same". She is held at sword point by Nagi, who forces Ranko to choose between the two. When Ranko cannot choose, Nagi lets Nagomi go, and her hair elastic is broken by Nagi, who lets them both go free, given they pay 10 times in sweets money. Nagomi was happy the issue was able to be solved without violence. However, she later witnesses Ranko's death, who was stabbed to death when she was looking at accessories that looked good on Ranko at a stall.

In Episode 12, in order to take revenge for Ranko's death, she proposes, to go to war with all of Creatureland Group. She ambushes the Cow Ace Maid and shoots her in the foot and cow ear before finally agreeing to tell Nagomi about Ranko's killer, and Nagi's plan to destroy the Oinky Doink Cafe. At Dorama, she then asks General about Nagi before shooting the restaurant's ceiling. He initially denied knowing anything until he saw that Nagomi had Ranko's gun and realized that she is now dead. He then sits down and tells her the story of Nagi and why she is acting out. After returning back to the cafe, she gets in an argument with her fellow maids, questioning how they can even call themselves maids when they are not going out and seeking vengeance for Ranko. She then tells them that she will kill as many members of the Creatureland Group as possible and send them straight to hell, so she can see Ranko's smile once again when she finally arrives there.

The next day, she visits the site where Nerula died and asks her oath sister to forgive her for changing and choosing to follow a path of vengeance. After leaving the site, the Cow Ace Maid, along with the Bear Ace Maid, Cat Ace Maid, and several cow maids attack Nagomi in retaliation. After being severely beaten with the Cow Ace Maid's crutch and foot cast, Nagomi asks the group what is the point of being a maid if all they do is scare and attack people. As the Cow Ace Maid is about to finally shoot and kill Nagomi, the Bear Ace Maid stops her, as there are too many witnesses. After spending the evening in a local jail, she returns to the café the following morning. In the room she shared that she shared with Ranko, she looks through Ranko's personal belongings, finding several mementos, including a group photo of the Oinky Doink maids after winning the Lady Omoe Climb at the maid festival. With the help of the other maids, she is able to come to her senses about violence, realizing its not the path she wants to go down.

When all 26 of the Creatureland group maids visit the shop, Nagomi entertains Nagi with an unprecedented performance of "Lifetime Girl Declaration☆". Ultimately, she ends the Akiba Maid Wars by convincing most of Creatureland's leadership that maid violence is not moe. Nagi, being the only holdout, shoots Nagomi several times until getting shot herself by the Wuv-Wuv Moonbeam Maid, who was moved by Nagomi. Despite being shot in the head, Nagi was able to turn and look at the shooter, before she was finally impaled by a sharpened bamboo spear thrown at her by Okachimachi.

In the post-credits scene, Nagomi is shown as a wheelchair-bound 36-year-old in 2018 who is a popular maid at The New Oinky Doink Café.

Relationships[]

Ranko Mannen[]

Ranko started the same day as Nagomi at Oinky Doink café, and Ranko has watched over Nagomi since. Ranko protects Nagomi from Wuv-Wuv Moonbeam maids in Episode 1, and in Episode 3, Nagomi shows concern over Ranko in the boxing ring, giving her a cute hair tie to hold her hair back. In Episode 5, Nagomi tries to do something special for Ranko's birthday and defends against Kaoruko's insults towards Ranko. While they are tied up, and Ranko confides in Nagomi about her past, the two have a moment together.

In Episode 6, Ranko warns Nagomi that a sisterhood bond with Nerula wouldn't guarantee peace between their two rival groups, sharing how a bond she made when she was younger was broken due to their differing views on violence. Ranko holds Nagomi back when Nerula has it out with Manami, noting that the fight was just between Nerula and Manami and that it was not their place to interfere.

Nagomi is upset by Suehiro's interest in Ranko because she doesn't want him to take her away from the café but puts on a brave face to show her support. Ranko thanks Nagomi for showing her happiness can exist in the maid career.

Ranko and Nagomi generally care about each other and value each other as maids.

After Ranko's death, Nagomi wants to avenge her and begins going down a path of vengeance. She acquires Ranko's handgun and begins using violence to find out who killed Ranko. She even promises that she will kill as many Creatureland Group members as possible and send them straight to hell so she could see Ranko's smile once again when she finally arrives there. After nearly being killed by the Cow Ace maid and looking through Ranko's things upon returning back to the café, she decides to stop going down that path and resume being a cheerful and energetic maid who believes in the power of moe moe kyun.

As a 36-year-old, Nagomi wears the hair clip Ranko picked out for her before her demise.

Nerula[]

Nerula was the first friend Nagomi made in Akiba while handing out pamphlets. Her words gave Nagomi the strength to give being a maid her all in her times of doubt and suggested ideas to help Nagomi hold an event in her café. Their friendship becomes threatened when Manami, the acting leader of the Maidalien Group, declares war on Creatureland and orders Maidalien cafes to destroy Oinky Doink. Ranko and Zoya suggest assassinating Maidalien's leader, as all other alternatives would lead to their deaths. However, Nagomi doesn't want to fight, fearing that a war would make her have to hurt Nerula. Manager suggests a formal sisterhood bond between them. Nagomi proposes the bond, and Nerula happily accepts, saying, "I guess I'm a big sister now". With the General's help, and Manager as a witness, the two exchange nametags and become bonded sisters.

Soon after, she finds out that Manami will attack "Oinky Doink" and informs Nagomi of her danger, slipping Nagomi a warning and tipping off a local policeman. Still, Manami and her aide Miyabi bribe the cop and hunt down Nerula soon after finding out she was the mole. The two find her hiding spot at about the same time as Nagomi and Ranko. Nerula takes responsibility for her actions and tries killing Manami, but is beaten and then shot down. Nagomi runs to her side. Nagomi holds the dying Nerula in her arms as Nagomi hears Nerula's dying words. "Don't change the way you are, Be the maid you are now." Nagomi sobs as her dear friend die in her arms.

One week after Nerula's murder, Nagomi leaves Oinky Doink Café and starts working at a ninja-themed café instead, hoping to hide from the maid violence. However, Nagomi soon regrets her decision after hearing from some of Nerula's regulars how much Nerula praised Nagomi before her death. After talking with General, Nagomi decides to use the ninja techniques she learned and honor Nerula by being the maid her friend knew she could be.

Manami Yamagishi[]

Nagomi has a final showdown with Manami in the park, where the latter is ready to fight to the death. Nagomi refuses to kill Manami, saying she will never forgive her for killing Nerula but demands she lives on as a maid.

Yasuko Yaegashi[]

Despite nearly getting her killed on her first day at work, she seems to develop a genuine care for Nagomi. She views herself as a secondary mother figure to the young maid and even offers to serve as a witness during the bonding sisterhood ceremony between her and Nerula. In Episode 9, she worries for Nagomi after she abandons the maids to handle their booth at the Akiba Maid Festival by themselves. She even sees Nagomi as a fish while she was pulling in a catch, feeling guilty, and runs to the festival in time to see Nagomi being crowned the year's Lady Omoe. When Nagomi sees her in the crowd, she smiles and waves at her.

Trivia[]
