Handmaid's Tea House (侍女茶館, jijyo sakan) was a maid café located in Akihabara, Tokyo.
Background[]
According to the signage, the café was established in 1980. The café appears to be modeled after a traditional British café with green drapes, dark wooden furniture, and a fireplace. The uniforms were of Victorian maid style.
Under the management of Michiyo, the café had a non-aggressive defense policy, despite the rise of turf wars between maid cafés in Akiba. Although several of the maids believed that it was unrealistic to maintain a non-aggressive policy and that they would need to take up arms at some point. A young maid named Ranko reciprocated Michiyo's belief in non-aggression. This stance would eventually cause a rift between Ranko and her oath sister, Uzuko.
In 1985, Michiyo was shot and killed in front of Ranko and Uzuko by a maid from a rival café. Her death led to Ranko changing her ways, and she was sent to prison for 14 years for a conflict.
Following Michiyo's death, the café permanently closed and remained vacant for several years before the manager took it over and renamed it as Oinky Doink Café. In 1999, after her release from prison, Ranko started working as a maid at Oinky Doink Café.
Ranko and Uzuko meet again soon after, with Uzuko revealing that she now goes by "Nagi" and is the head of the Creatureland Group, which Oinky Doink Café is affiliated with. Nagi continues to blame Ranko and her nonaggressive attitude for Michiyo's death.
